Welcome |

How would you like to be a part of the largest student organization in the world? How would you like to engage in projects and activities that have national and international impact? How would you like to help change the world by providing economic opportunities to people in the poorest regions of the world? How would you like to be a part of a student group that owns and operates its own business in downtown Marshall? Travel to places like Croatia, Mexico, Dallas, Minneapolis, or Tuscan? And, how would you like to be a member of a competitive team that is ranked among the Elite 8 teams in the country? If these things interest you, we encourage you to join the SMSU Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team this fall. |

What is SIFE?
|
|
| |
SIFE is an international student organization with chapters on more than 1400 campuses in 42 countries. The goals of SIFE teams all over the world is to “change the world” by engaging in projects that improve their communities and the lives of people all across the globe. SIFE team members leverage their personal educational experiences, the expertise of their faculty advisors, the support of their local business advisory boards, and the resources of their institutions to implement programs that create real economic opportunities for members of their communities. The effectiveness of their programs is judged at competition. Each national SIFE organization conducts a national competition, which is judged by leaders from its business community. Our SIFE team is a very competitive organization. We made it to the national competition for the past four years, advancing all the way to the Elite 8 this past spring. This year, we are in a position to win that National championship and represent the US at the SIFE World Cup.

Who Can Join? |
|
| |
SIFE is not just for business majors. We currently have members who major in disciplines as diverse as chemistry, political science, history and education. Our projects are so diverse that students in all majors can contribute to our success. For example, this past year we taught fourth graders in area schools the principles of free enterprise, held an ethics conference for almost 400 high school students, continued to operate our business, Nature’s Backyard, in downtown Marshall and created CORE, the Center Of Rural Entrepreneurship, right here in our region. We have one million dollar endowment to support scholarship and internship programs for our members. Each year we give out 10-20 scholarship to our active members. We also have six exclusive rotating SIFE internships with The Schwan Food Company available only to our members. We meet weekly on Thursdays at 5:30pm in SC249. Come join us for a meeting and see what we have to offer. |
